We’re pleased to announce that Scan Azure Blob Cloud Storage API functionality has been expanded to include support for 7zip and split RAR files. This expansion comes with the release of Cloudmersive Private Cloud Virus API V9-9-9.

What is a 7zip file?

7zip is an archive software which generates compressed files using the 7z file format. 7z is known for offering a particularly high compression ratio and support for multiple different formats, including ZIP, RAR, GZIP, TAR, and more.

What is a Split RAR file?

Split RAR files are RAR archives which have been divided into a series of separate, smaller RAR files (e.g., first_part.rar, second_part.rar, etc.). Split RAR files can be stored separately and/or transferred over networks in chunks. They’re typically used when platforms have significant file size limitations for upload & download, or for sharing files via email.

Why scan 7zip and split RAR files?

Like any archive format, 7zip and split RAR files can be used to obfuscate malware and other malicious files, such as executables, scripts, macro-enabled Office documents, and more. Cloudmersive 360-degree virus scanning will “lift the hood” to identify subfile threats hidden within 7zip and split RAR files and report malicious content in the API response body.
